Launching a Leadership Revolution…

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

I am very passionate about my growth as a leader, and about leadership period. I do everything I can to constantly fill my mind with great thoughts that will allow me to grow and realize my destiny. My mission in life is to become the most highly sought after leadership teacher in the world. I want to continuously fill my mind and soul with the thoughts and words of the greatest thinkers this world has known so that as I grow and become the man that I want to become, I can teach others and the lessons just come out of me. I have a plan and I know how I will reach my ultimate destiny, I hope you do as well. Part of the plan is to read constantly. I am currently reading a book by Chris Brady and Orrin Woodward called Launching A Leadership Revolution-Mastering the Five Levels of Influence, if you love leadership pick it up. I want to share some thoughts that have struck me hard from this book. I know you will enjoy them. All of these thoughts come from chapter 7 The Second Level of Influence:Performing. It is about ones ability to perform their role and becoming the best that they can become.

Performers understand that champions do not start out that way. For those new to the topic of success or leadership, it seems common to assume that champions have always been successful. Nothing could be a bigger myth. Champions become that way only through the commitment that follows a decision to be great. (Champions are forged not just born, everyone has greatness within them, we just have to find it, hone it and let it out!)

Sometimes people struggle to become performers and find themselves smack up against a poor self image. Additionally there seems to be no shortageof situations that expose us to these feelings of inadequacy. We all have them. But, performers know that they must succeed despite these feelings, not in the absence of them. It is a decision. Sometimes we will not feel worthy of a certain accomplishment, so we must make ourselves worthy. We may not feel we can measure up to our goals, and that is precisely the reason for deliberate personal growth!!!!! To reach our potential, growth isn’t optional, it is REQUIRED!!!! (If you want to become the best that you can be, then you must strive to grow everyday. God did not put us on this Earth to stagnate he put us here to reach our maximum potential to become the kind of people that do great things. Strive for growth every single day.)

Effort fully releases its reward only after a person refuses to quit. Persistence is the key. (You will never give up, never surrender. Live the biggest life that you can live and rise up to the challenges that this incredible life has to offer!)

And lastly…this amazing poem…enjoy.

Anyway

people are unreasonable, illogical and self centered.

love them anyway

if you do good, people will accuse you of selfishness.

do good anyway

if you are successful you will win false friends and true enemies

succeed anyway

the good you do will be forgotten tomorrow

do good anyway

honesty and frankness will make you vulnerable

be honest and frank anyway

what you spend years building may be destroyed overnight

build anyway

people really need help but may attack you if you help them

help people anyway

give the world the best you have and you’ll get kicked in the teeth

give the world the best you’ve got anyway

You all have an awesome day and take it to the next level…see you soon!   cg

Sorry I have been away for a while, I have missed writing here.

It is time to talk about being all out there! I was attending a concert with one of my friends recenly and he made mention (in a slightly joking manner) of the fact that my face was all over the city, and how he really thought my billboards were funny. The truth is, I am all over the place and I am not ashamed of it. If you want to build the strongest business you have got to put yourself out in the public eye. My role as the leader and the rainmaker of our company is to be the face man. I have to give every bit of effort to getting my name and my face out into the world in a big way. When I started my campaign on the big local A.M. radio station the idea was to make myself the local real estate celebrity. When we started our TV campaign it was the same thing, help the people of Austin think of no one else when they thought about real estate. If you want to build the strongest and best business that will drive buyers and sellers to you, you will have to get over your “shyness” about publicity, you are going to have to become a publicity hound, a shameless self promoter, and an all around great person that people want to see and be around. That is the key; people have got to want to be around you!

Are you a person that people like to be around? Do you like to be around you???  Answer those questions honestly, because the answers will effect everything else in your life. If you are the kind of person that people look at as likable, it will have a very positive impact on your career and your business.

If you are not positive and fun, nobody will stand for it and they will run from you. Be the kind of bright, pleasent, beaming person that makes all of those around them feel comfortable. As leadership icon John Maxwell says; “be a lifter not a leaner.” Lift people up with your words, your leadership and your example. This will make a huge difference when your business starts taking off. Start handing out your cards and getting to know those around you. Building a strong network is crucial for your growing business. Talk to you soon!   cg

leadership

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

I am finding out more and more that leadership is everything. You have to be a leader to make yourself stand out. Leadership is about people development, and that means teaching people how to think. I have focused a ton of effort on figuring out how to think and make a difference in peoples lives and you can too. Do things differently and help the people around you to think on a higher level. We are not here on this Earth just to make money for ourselves, we are here to make a difference in others lives. Once you start to figure out how to be successful in your own life, share your success thoughts with others. Sometimes that means doing things that are uncomfortable. Getting up in front of others and sharing ideas that make you feel uncomfortable.

Last night I was watching the movie “Freaky Friday” with my 3 kids and there is a part in there where Jamie Lee Curtis is in a television interview and acting wild, sharing thoughts that were just outrageous and doing it in a  manner that was a bit crazy. It reminded me of myself sometimes. As I watched I thought, that is my job as a leader, to get up on a chair and shout out loud what makes me different and what makes us each special. Get peoples attention and teach them how to think differently. In the words of Gary Keller “Teaching people how to think is what leadership is all about.” People need leaders to push them to get out and make a statement, to share their thoughts and ideas and to be a little off the deep end. I have never been a person that thinks in an ordinary fashion. People call me, “extreme” and “intense” and they are correct, I am both of those things and that is what makes me unique and special and that is what makes me a leader.

Sometimes we have to get up on a chair and shout out what makes us successful without caring what the outcome is. Be wild, and radical and let people know what makes you tick, even if it feels outrageous. Leaders are different; they think differently; they act differently and they make things happen. They influence others to take their feelings about life and make them known. Do not settle for the status quo in your life. Get out of your box and do something. Be wild and crazy and let people know that it is alright to be a big thinker.

I will lead not follow, I will set a new standard and I will step up! I will step up and make a positive impact on my world and the people around me. I hope you will too. Breakthrough!!!    cg

Be relentless and break into new markets

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

I feel great right now. I have taken a much needed break from the non-stop push that we all like to call life and I feel refreshed and ready to go. I am going to get back focused on the important mission that is my life. Sometimes we need to just get that break in and then start the engines again at full speed and make things happen. It is that time for me. I have energy like there is no tomorrow and I love it. It is that ten thousand megawatt energy that makes us buzz and makes others wonder what makes us tick. The energy that allows you and I to move to the highest levels of our industries. What makes me tick is a mission to positively impact the lives of millions of people worldwide, and the first place that starts is with my family and my home life, then it moves to my office and team members, then it moves to my clients and then to the world! I want to talk about clients right now and how I am focusing on breaking into a new market to start impacting a new level of clientele with our high powered real estate sales system.

There have been lots of thoughts at my office about how we continue to move forward and what my role is in the company. We have decided that in my real estate business we have to start pushing our price point up and moving into the areas of town that have the fastest moving markets with the best price points, preferrably less than 50 days and $500k or more in terms of there price and days on market. What we have done is identified the areas and now my role is to do what I am best at; getting on the phones and prospecting! I am solely putting all of my extra time and intense energy into calling every single expired listing since 6/1/2007 in all of the areas that I am interested in getting into. The reason I go back a full year is that some of those people have kept there homes off the market and they are now thinking about selling again, I want to give myself an opportunity to work with all of them. I am also then targeting all of the for sale by owners. What I am offering them is our full service marketing package at a slightly discounted rate to make my offer more attractive to them. I am just being very plain and honest about the whole situation to them, explaining exactly what and why I am doing what I am doing. It is going very well. Last Tuesday afternoon I went into my schedule and I cleared out everything that was not prospecting or some sort of lead generation activity. I then started filling my schedule with big chunks of prospecting time and then getting on the phone. Our next step is to start a marketing campign targeted at specifically those people in those areas that we want to work. I will then (as I start taking listings there) market heavily the homes that I list with things like just listed cards, a newsletter, a prescence in their neighborhood newsletter. I will hold a ton of open houses (plastering our Goldwasser Real Estate signs everywhere), and every time I sell one of these homes a just sold card will go out letting the people know in the area who is there neighborhood expert.

The idea that I want you to get is this; if you want to take over a neighborhood, ATTACK IT!!! From every angle…Let them know you are serious and infiltrate their minds with information and messages about who you are and why they should call you. Treat this as a blitzkrieg attack, and do not stop until you have taken over the area that you want to work in.

People sometimes believe that it takes a long time and a ton of marketing to become the area expert in a neighborhood. The truth is it can happen very quickly if you use a full force manuever. Some people believe that you just start marketing to an area through the mail and then eventually if you stay there long enough and spend enough marketing dollars that something will happen. I do not take that approach, I take the agressive approach that I just explained. Attack a neighborhood, or a price range, or a demographic if you want to work it. Do not just go in and pussy foot around, start a full fledged bombardment and use every trick in the book; marketing, calls, door knocking, whatever it takes to take over. I will guarentee that within 6 months I will have a lions share of business in the area that I am going after by using this no holds barred approach.

That is it for now. Hope it helps. I am glad to be back, well rested and ready to go!!! Talk with you soon.

There are no limits!!!!    cg
